So we snuck out of our apartment with the baby sleeping in his crib, little did he know that he'd spend the next 3 days being Grandmamatized!!
We hopped on the plane feeling so carefree without a baby and with half the luggage! YIPEE! We flew into Jackson Mississippi and discovered that there was no shuttle to the Walmart where our rental car awaited. Oops! my bad, but it turned out ok. They said that they have someone traveling to that walmart going to pick up a rental car for the airport and that we could hitch a ride with them.
So we walked out to the street and waited for some mysterious ride. Soon enough this big van pulled up and this 75 year old woman rolls down her window sayin' "yall goin ta Waalmart?"
It was so funny! She had the most Southan Accent I've ever heard. It was plain near hard to understand the words comin out of her mouth. But she was nice and told us all 'bout how she now a great great grandmother and then she certainly turned a bit fierce with the bad drivers that wouldn't let her into the lane she wanted. Anyways, I felt like I was on the "Welcome to Mississippi official tour."
We got to walmart, rented a car and bought a cable so that we could listen to our ipod music for the next 3 hours as we traveled to Tennessee. Of course, seeing as where we were, we listened to lots of country music.
The drive was very beautiful. Trees trees, all pine trees everywhere. Forest forest forest, and more forest. Seriously the trees were so thick you couldn't walk through em! Trees trees trees everywhere! All green and pretty!
It turns out that Memphis is a town where if you white, you better watch your butt else it'll get blown off. We were careful enough to stay outta trouble. Soon as we got there we went to Corky's BBQ and enjoyed some fine fattening foods, and then we went back to the hotel to watch some Ghostbusters on TV and guess what? No baby! Amy actually got some sleep. Yay!
The next morning we did the interview. The college was this white 11 story building in the middle of a dirty-old, old looking town. It looked ok enough on the inside, kinda like some of the crappy buildings at the University of Utah type feel. One thing that I really was impressed with was how these students here are encouraged to have part time jobs! WHAT? They actually had time for work? Most other Optometry schools work their students so hard that they have no time for food much less a part time job. So the lazy part of me cheered, "Yes! this is the easy school!" And I decided I would like to go there.
That night we had dinner and dessert with this cute couple across the border 15 minutes south back in Mississippi. We talked for hours about everything and found out how affordable housing is. Mortgages are 830 a month and 2-3 bedroom apartments run around 650-750 a month. This made living there seem so much more possible then Florida. The picture above is a house that we may someday live in!
The next day we went back to the airport and Amy turned on the camera to see the pics we'd taken and guess what? There was pictures of this baby.... "OH YEAH, WE FORGOT ABOUT HIM!!" We pretty much googled over his pictures and videos there in the airport and started missing him. When we finally did arrive home we were surprised to see that Isaac's face had gained probably 2 inches!
The End
